The Pitch Report – August

Hello again,

More good news on the pitching front…Of the 7 songs approved for the Carla Williams Opportunity Listing, our Placement Partner at Lofton Creek Records has requested  mp3s for Wendy Willis and Paul Bogart’s I Love These Days and Scott Tonkinson and Lance Carpenter’s Johnny, Jones, & Jesus.  We hope to hear back if there’s further interest in the next few weeks.  Wish them luck!

Also, Congratulations to The Jompson Brothers for taking first prize in  Zac Brown Band’s Sailing Southern Ground Songwriting Contest.  They’re heading out to rock the high seas with Zac and company this weekend.  The entries were really strong so the competition was tight, and the Jompson Brothers will certainly represent the contest well.

Keep it up,

Jamie and Doug

THE PITCH REPORT – June

Dear Songspacers,

We hope you’re having a great summer! Couple bits of info for you. Member Eric Mizelle’s song “Loving on You” was taken off hold for Keith Urban by the Capitol Records A&R team. Darnit. Close but no cigar. In addition, the 4 songs that were requested for the South African commercial were ultimately passed on by Hennessy Cognac’s ad agency. So, below is the June Pitch Report. Summer has a been a bit slow on Opportunities… we’ll keep you posted.

Sincerely,

Jamie, Doug, and Conan the Song Man

Hey Songspacers,

Have you been checking out the Writers page recently?  It’s where we showcase our Songspace Writer of the Week (often coinciding with the Writer of the Week feature on American Songwriter.com) and a couple other sets of members’ songs that we’ve found using the Search page.  Some recent sets have included Songspace Writers Who Were Influenced by Bill Withers, Songspace Writers Who Fiddle with the Violin, Songspace Writers From Georgia, and Songspace Writers Who Bring The Funk.  Basically, we use the search function to find cool songs and group them together based on the information you’ve supplied on your Writer and Song Profile pages.  The Writers page is one of our favorite places to feature member’s music that we come across while searching the site, so make sure your profile pages are filled out so we can find you.  Check out the Writers page HERE

THE PITCH REPORT – May

Dear American Songspacers,

Here’s the latest edition of the monthly Songspace Pitch Report. Be sure to check out and listen to some of your fellow members to see what they’re up to!

We’ve got some great news this go-round … Capitol Records A&R has placed Songspace Member Eric Mizelle’s “Loving on You” on HOLD with Keith Urban! Congrats Eric. We should know something in the next couple weeks. Wish Eric the best!

Additionally, Capitol requested MP3’s for two more songs for this project: Stephen Garrett’s “Why Don’t We” and Chris Adams‘ “I’m Gonna Live.” Congrats to both.

As for the inaugural commercial advertising post, “South African Commercial Looking for Songs,” the project’s Music Supervisor requested the MP3 for Jessica Campbell’s “Beautiful Design” for the commercial’s consideration shortlist. Way to go Jessica.

Songspacers, if you keep up the song quality that we received for the Keith Urban project … you’ll be going places.

Sincerely,

Jamie, Doug, and Conan the Song Man

MORE ABOUT THE SONG PLACEMENT PROCESS

American Songspace’s Song Placement opportunity listings are centered around two components: 1) Our Personal Relationships within the music industry and 2) Our proprietary Digital Song-Pitching Platform. The A&R Department at American Songspace has cultivated, and continues to do so, working partnerships with key music users/buyers—agents of song placement such as Record Label A&R Executives, Producers, Managers and Music Supervisors for film, television and advertising projects, etc. These listings/posts are created by the song Placement Partners (PP) themselves, activated by American Songspace, and promoted to our Member Community. When members’ songs are submitted for a project, they are sent to our Song In-Box, thoroughly SCREENED by American Songspace A&R, and only the most appropriate/qualified songs are “Selected” for the PP’s listening schedule. The PP then logs in to his/her digital Industry Account to listen to each and every song Selected by American Songspace A&R. If the PP expresses interest in a song and requests a copy, we immediately download and send them an mp3 of the song. We stay abreast of any status movement on songs that are placed on Hold, and notify members of any such activity. We also the encourage the PP to reach out directly to the songwriter when possible. Additionally, all those who are Not Selected and Selected will receive an e-mail notification within 1-week of the project closings. The submission price ($3.99) is a song processing/screening fee, the service is non-exclusive, and members retain all rights and ownership of their songs.

Introducing … The Pitch Report!

Dear American Songspacers,

You’ve been asking for it, so here it is! THE PITCH REPORT is American Songspace’s comprehensive monthly status report – listing and linking the writers and songs that are rising to the top of the Major Label Artist Placement Project heap. Below is the inaugural February Pitch Report! This will give you a good idea of the quality standard for the songs that are being selected, and you’ll enjoy finding out if your song made the cut for the projects that you submitted to. The song order isn’t in any specific order, and wasn’t submitted to the Placement Partner with any preference over one another. You can check out Writer Profiles AND Song Profiles through the links below. The American Songspace blog will be the place to go for each edition of THE PITCH REPORT, so be sure check back every few weeks. In this space we’ll also update when a song is placed on Hold, is intended to be Cut, Cut, or any other major developments with Selected Songs. Be sure to read “More About the Song Placement Process” below, which might answer some logistical questions that you may still have.

Sincerely,
A&R Dept.

Hello Songspacers!

This will be THE destination for American Songspace announcements, partnerships, bug fixes, office stories, great new songwriters we’ve discovered and you don’t know about unless you’re one of us, the situation room discussions, new product launches, jokes about songwriting, jokes about songspace, the craft of music, and hopefully a place to help the songwriting fool that you are.

Welcome.
